We have used TurboTax for a few years and used the second choice. We have no investments. This year they won't let us into that one, eventhough that is the one they recommend when we take their survey. We have asked for help, customer support and have gotten NOWHERE. Anyone else having that problem? Did you find a solution?

You can choose whichever one you would like to buy without restriction online at www.turbotax.com. The software will automatically download.

Unless you have returns from prior years on a different version, then maybe in order for you to roll forward the same information you need a specific edition. Otherwise if youre planning to input all information yourself, then I dont see why you should have a problem.

Can't see why you can't download the version you want, regardless of what their survey tells you. Try clearing the cache and cookies on your browser and see if that helps clear the decisionmaking. Go back to the front page as see if the selections are available again.

If it's the online version, clearing the cache and cookies on your browser may help there, too. Most people's problems seem to stem from trying to downgrade in the middle of a return, not upgrade. It's not a bug: they just don't want you to use the deluxe tools for free, then downgrade to basic to file at a cheaper fee w/o trouble, so they make you start over and re-enter your info.

That is an excellent stat. Now what you should do is present your big boss (those that own the franchise) to capitalize on it. Instead of just saying they would recommend it, make it worth their while to recommend it. Give them a free 1 year check for each person they recommend that has you do their work. Ask them to write up reviews for local papers, and consumer groups etc.

Reply:Absolutely! This shows customer satisfaction. I would think that it also means that you know what you are doing. I always try to ask customer opinion when searching out a new vendor.

I find that I spend an awful lot of time sorting out problems with my cable and broadband provider/gas and electric company etc. not to mention wrongly delivered goods/incomplete goods etc etc etc. What's more, their so-called customer helplines make being unhelpful into an art form and can be so rude to you, the paying customer. I have to say that things are much the same before they have secured your purchase, in many cases. Have you tried asking for advice in an electrical store recently? Is the philosophy of customer-satisfaction just a token gesture nowadays? Why and how do these companies continue to generate huge profits despite essentially poor consumer-relations (regardless of what their 'surveys' show)?

This is very short sighted ,as we have seen many ,

previously high, profit making businesses,

Reply:"Customer service" seems to be a euphamism for damage limitation for when things go wrong.

The only reason large companies with poor customer relations make big profits, it that people put up with poor service and take it for granted.

I do not. If I get poor service and am dissatisfied, I vote with my feet and take my business elsewhere. This applies to all businesses; banks, shops, utility companies, transportation, you name it. If more people did this, the bad companies would go bust in no time.
Reply:Well rocket, there may be many explanations...many reasons...

1.In countries where there are lots of competition in an industry and the service industries are matured, firms try to differentiate by providing high quality and thats why due to competition its not true that such costs will also charge more...they provide quality to survive......But in cases where the service industries are not so mature, they don't have to bother about customer.....its demand and supply game.. they supply and demand is already there...who cares about quality?

2. In some cases even in matured markets, some firms provide so cheap low cost versions that they don't provide quality and they explicitly state that in their communications to customers.

3. Still if they claim to provide high quality but are not providing it, its is the management problem. Such firms in mature markets in long term will lose customers always.

Now pick up your case.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM?

If your case is no.3 and you expect high quality- shift to another firm or if switching cost is high then complain and keep on complaining to the top management. If its a good firm they will listen or else drag them to the consumer courts.

MANY A TIMES BECAUSE OF OUR DIDN'T MATTER attitude even good firms don't provide what they claim. But, once they understand that customers too have power they will be more responsible towards customers like you....

Reply:I think it depends on the store. One place I buy music from has got such great staff I travel 20 miles to go there rather than the one in my town. Some places are really strong on customer service.
Reply:It depends upon their marketing strategy. Quality retailers who do not sell on price will invest in customer satisfaction and provide the back up this needs. Outlets that sell by tying to be the cheapest will strip their costs to the bone employing pushy spotty faced salespeople who will tell you anything to sell you anything.

I saw an ad in the newspaper under the employment classifieds for a customer service evaluator. I went to the website and filled out something and summitted it. I can't remember the website, can't find it, and I don't remember what I filled out. Lol. Then, three months later I recive a check in the mail for 2595.00. I am suppost to keep a 100.00 for myself and the rest is to send a money gram to Canda. Then fill out a survey and fax it along with the amount of hours I can put in. The check is valid. I work at a check cashing place and know how to valid any check. I called the number on the paper work they sent and they said they have offices in America, but I called the Canda one. And said pretty much everything that is on the paper work. It also said if this assignment goes good and no problems happen, they can sent three to four assignments a week. It seems too good to be true, but at the same time, the check is very real. Are there any obvious risks I am missing?

I have heard of this. You will deposit the "real" check in your account and then you send the money gram. Later the check comes back as bad (check takes a week or more to clear) but you have already sent the funds in a money gram that has been cashed and you are the one who is left to cover the loss.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.
Reply:I would cash the check and just hold the cash for at least 30 days to make sure if necessary, I could repay it. I definately would not cash it and send anyone anything. More than like the check (if cashed) will be debited from your account as stolen or something. Cash it at your bank and wait for a couple of statements to come in and maybe (not likely) you will have couple of grand to play with (don't count on it)

My boyfriend works at a tow truck company. They have a contract with AAA. AAA sends surveys out to their customers to evaluate their opinion on the overall service that they received. The owner of this tow truck company wants to take the surveys and if it does not come out as a customer is 100% satisfied then he wants to deduct $75.00 from their paycheck for every negative survey he has faxed to him.

I was wondering if anybody knew what a legal payroll deduction is when you work for a tow truck company?
No, he can't do that. I would suggest to him he give a $10 or 20.00 bonus for all 100% satisfied survey!

I have a customer list with over a 1000 customers. Row A has name, B has address, C zip code, D phone number, etc. I also have a word document that has a heading for Name, Address, and Phone, its kind of like a personal survey but for customers and we just want an automated process rather than hand writing everything. Is there a way to take, like a macro, to take the info from the spread sheet and put it onto a workd document and have it print each one?

Reply:You want to gently bridge the white and the colors together. I would try bringing in some varying tones of white, light tans and off whites. Try to do this with natural materials, such as wooden candlesticks something weathered, keeping the fossil stone table in mind. They can be small for an end table or you can get larger ones that would sit on the floor, put them in a nice grouping. For the centerpiece, I would add a very simple classic vase, add fresh flowers as often as possible. For the rugs I would look at sisals and needle points, both types lay very flat to the floor. Sisal is a very neutral grass like rug. It will complement the Pergo flooring very nicely. Needlepoint's are just that a needlepoint. They can be a little expensive but look around you will find something affordable. This type of rug will have more color than a sisal, but the colors are usually muted.

1. No, I don't think the government focuses almost any attention on alternative energy except to pacify us.

2. I think its imperative that the government do something to improve our energy crisis, but I am very pessimistic about that ever actually happening.

4. I really wish the government would put a limit on gas prices! I read in the paper that it was going to be $5 by July where I live! Its sickening that the oil companies profits are so high and we allow it.

Reply:The government should be using more forms of nuclear energy and start teaching this generation facts about nuclear energy. To many people only think about nuclear bombs. These are two separate things. All our Navy vessels use nuclear energy.
Reply:Since many homes have 2 cars one of them should be electric (look up Hybrid Technologies). The electric car would be used going back and forth to work every day and the other could be used for the weekend longer runs or trips. Everyone using an electric car to go to work every day would save an enormous amount of fuel in a years time

2. Focus on limiting coal and oil, improving alternative energy, and subsidizing the research and implementation of renewable energy.

3. Initially, cost, as it costs more to install and change systems to alternative and renewable energy. Efficiency is a concern, but there are some amazing new power plant systems that are being tested in other countries, and they will come to the U.S. eventually. Emissions is a concern from some of the alternative energy, but almost all alternative energies are still better than coal or oil.

4. No price limits. Let the prices get outrageous and force the implementation and use of renewable energy. In terms of environmental and energy policy, the U.S. historically reacts to such problems with favorable policies.

5. Of course, but in this capitalistic market the prices would equalize and competition would take it's course. The prices of solar panels prove this concept. Look at California for examples.

6. Increased subsidies for companies that are making strides in these endeavors would be the most prudent measure. Rather than putting money towards research, the Fed needs to put money into switching government buildings across the country to "green" energy.

But they also need to spend more time coming up with better, cleaner, and more efficeint ways of using any new energy source. I believe they should really focus more time on solar power, wind power of hydroelectric energy sources.

3.The biggest concern. Well, cost would be an issue, but I think the biggest issue would come from the population. Trying to get everybody to use more effiecient power sources. I have seen that many states have alternative energy methods such as windmills and solar panels available with benefits to the person who uses them, but most people are set in there ways and do not want to spend the time or money to convert to more efficient methods.

5. At first possibly yes. But then as more people use the materials and the demand stays high, eventually the prices would go down.

Reply:There are a lot of questions here and it is late so I will by pass most and say this. I think the government should set strict regulations on businesses for air, land and water protection. I feel the government should enforce the regulations, even if it is funded through local authorities in each community. The guidelines have to be set nationally.

As far as heating my home. I would prefer Geo thermo heating and if I build another home I will seriously look into it. I have natural gas forced air heating now.

I do not think the government should fund or offer tax incentives to business to make changes that are environmentally friendly. I believe that can be done by means of stricter regulations and stronger penalties for pollution violations. Tax payers as a whole should not have to pay businesses to do business in an environmentally friendly way. That should be done for good customer relations by the businesses themselves.

I do believe the government should give more money to education. We have to make institutions of higher learning available to all.
Reply:Clearly the government is NOT doing their job as far as US energy policy. If we cut back the US consumption of oil by about 50%, we could not only be almost 100% self sufficient in producing our own oil, the bottom would drop out of the price of oil world-wide. That alone would effectively defund most of the cash used by terrorists and provide a HUGE boost to the economies of almost every country in the world. Hello dot com days to the stock markets across the world. How would one get this to happen? By getting real with energy policy. For example:

1. Sure we can use "sticks", like extra taxes on fuel hog cars/trucks/etc, but with carrots too. Give the owner of any car (mostly hybrids) that gets better than 40 MPG (EPA rated) a $1,000 tax credit for every year the owner has current tags and insurance for that vehicle. So even if hybrids are $5k more, eventually if you keep it you will get paid back for the extra expense. If we added a nickel a gallon tax for the only purpose to fund these credits, this would be revenue neutral for the government for quite a few years.

2. Mandate new construction homes have a minimun of 2,000 watts of solar panels on the roof if the location is sunny enough to justify their use. It would only slightly raise the mortgage payment and would reduce the utility bills more than it increases the montly mortgage payment. Make similar requirements on new commercial construction. We are told that the infrastructure for our power distribution system is old and greatly in need of upgrading at many billions of dollars. Power users will ultimately pay for those upgrades (that's us). If we mandate more solar where appropriate, we can significanltly delay those upgrades as more and more of us will be making our own power and not require getting it from the power grid. This would also make power failures like California had less likely. Peak loads are always during the day when you just happen to get peak sunshine, right? I have a 2,000 watt system on my roof and my electric bills are about $20/month now.

3. Mandate efficency standards for all appliances sure, but don't forget the little stuff, such as the power adapters we use for a thousand different things. Digital switching power supplies use far less standby power than the old style ones and cost perhaps a dollar more, worth the cost. Insist anything people plug into the wall have as little standby useage as truly required. (Think DVDs, stereo, TV, computers, clocks, cordless phones, etc.) Just remember that for every kilowatt you use in your home, the power plant had to produce 3.3 kilowatts to get it to your house after taking transmission losses into account.

4. Build more nuclear power plants from the latest designs available and standardize them so construction costs are lower. Provide incentives for power companies to build them instead of being a roadblock to limit them from being added to our power grid.

5. Provide higher long term credits for power companies and home-owners and businesses to add solar (photovoltaic) and wind power to the power grids nationwide. More construction would include these things if they were sure that the owners would get a credit when construction is completed. Many projects take years to complete and who wants to risk that 1/2 way through the project congress cancels the credit? If more of these systems were purchased, the prices for them would drop due to higher (mass) production.

6. Mandate minimum levels of insullation on existing homes and provide assistance to low income to help them comply to the higher standards. Poor people would benefit a lot if their utility bills dropped by 50%, wouldn't they? Rich guys don't need to care how much they are paying as they have the cash to pay the bills for power and heating, but no-one should be allowed to be "too wastefull". I don't care if you think you need a 10,000 square foot home, but at least make it energy efficient of even self sufficient if possible.

This is just a start, but many different solutions make sense. There is no one magic bullit, but taken as a whole, many small improvements can get us there. Demand your goverment do more than it is doing now, which is little more than nothing. Write your representatives and suggest some things to them and if they don't take action, boot them out next election cycle.

Part of my job is to create surveys for our customers to complete. I am looking for software that has an easy to use wizard for creating surveys I can post on the web. I just need the basics but the more customizeable it is the better. The software should also be able to gather the data for and if it can prepare reports from the data that would be great. Software should be freeware or low cost since the company won't spring for it. Any suggestions?

In most businesses, increasing prices of their product can have a negative effect on the number of customers of the business. A bus company in a small town has an average number of riders of 800 per day. The bus company charges $2.25 for a ride.They conducted a survey of their customers and found that they will lose approximately 40 customers per day for each $.25 increase in fare.

What is the graph and what are the domain and range?
You have a point (2.25, 800) and a slope of 40/-0.25, or -160. The slope is a rate of change - if you lost 40 customers per $0.25, then your slope is 40/-0.25.

To find the equation of the line, use the point-slope formula:

y - y1 = m(x - x1)

y - 800 = -160(x - 2.25)

y - 800 = -160x + 360

y = -160x + 1160

The graph will be a line starting at (0, 1160) and going down with a slope of -160. The domain will start at 0 - since the x-axis represents money, you have to exclude negative numbers. To find the rightmost value for the domain, find the x-intercept:

0 = -160x + 1160

160x = 1160

x = 7.25

So your domain is [0, 7.25]. The range will be [0, 1160] - 0 for no customers, 1160 from the y-intercept.

Then I = (R-40x)(F+0.25x), and our intial values of R and F make our equation I = (800-40x)(2.25+0.25x). This is a parabola that opens downward, crossing the x-axis twice. The left x-intercept is the situation where the Income is 0 because the price has dropped to 0. The right x-intercept is the situation where the Income is 0 because the fare is so high there are no riders. What makes the problem an easy one, not needing calculus, is that the parabola is symmetric with respect to a vertical line through its vertex (max value), and that means the line of symmetry is exactly HALFWAY between those x-intercepts.

So, solving 800-40x = 0, the right intercept is x = 20. Solving 2.25 + .25x = 0, the left intercept is x = -9. Halfway between, x = 5.5. So the max income is 800(2.25 + 5.5(.25)) = 1800 + 1100 = 1900.

Since negative Income makes no sense, domain is -9 ≤ x ≤ 20 and range is 0 ≤ I ≤ 1900.

so if you wanted to find the graph of this, you have to complete the square.

= -10 (x^2 - 11x -180)

= -10 (x^2 - 11x + 30.25 - 30.25 - 180)

(30.25 is half of 11 squared)

= -10 (x-5.5)^2 - 2102.5

so the maximum would be when x=5.5, so the increase would be 5.5 * 0.25 which is 1.375 or $1.38.

the domain would be all x, since x can be anything.

the range would be y%26lt;5.5, since the maximum is when x=5.5 so all other values have to be less than that.

another way to graph it is to find the x intercepts, which are the roots of (800-40x)(2.25+0.25x) which means x = 800/40 = 20 and x = -2.25/0.25 = -9. and then find the y intercept, which is when x=0, so its 1800. and then differentiate the function (take the derivative)

-10x^2 + 110x + 1800 to get

-20x + 110 and set that to 0 to find where the function has a maximum (youll get x=5.5 again). and ya.

Some companies online sell this type of information but it can be expensive and they may not have info for your location. You could get some friends to help you do quick street surveys to see how people would react to the types of products you are planning to sell. Also pay attention to other businesses in the area and see how well they are doing. If others have tried it and gone out of business, then it might not be such a great idea for the area. Also make sure there aren't too many stores like you are planning already in the area or find a way to differentiate yours from theirs through something special. You could even ask some stores that are similar to yours about their businesses. Not everyone will want to tell you everything, but some can be really helpful. I had to get this type of info for some of my college business projects.

There are also actual people called business analysts/advisors that will research this for you and advise you on whether to do it or not.
Reply:Find a merchant's association. They usually have a good idea of the demographics of the area. See if where you plan to have your shop fits with those characteristics of te kind of customer you want.

A well defined customer profile helps you know the place to advertise, locate your store, product lines to pursue and many other business decisions.

I worked for a cash register company and saw the marketing posters for customer profiles for a clothing store here in the states. They had two customer profiles that I remember. One was called "Mimi Mimic." she was the kind of woman who would buy the clothing all her friends bought. Trendy,stuff that she saw im magazines. The other was "Penny Paycheck." She was on a budget looking for nice clothes for work. Both were young, say 15-25, thin, not much in that store was for larger women, though today, people are bigger so they would probably have more big sizes.

If YOU are the target customer, profile yourself. That's a starting point. Now ask yourself, if there are enough people who think and act like you, to buy your imported garments.

I get emails from Microsoft for my customer satisfaction on their help. Do we all have ego problems these days or what? I don't have time for all of this homework! What is this phenomenon all about? Should I just send out a huge mass email and tell everyone they did a good job, now leave me alone? How can we block requests for feedback? This is like expecting us to send thank you notes when we have already said thank you in person. Life is too busy these days for more than one thank you for the same thing!

Reply:I don't know about luxury apartments, but when my wife and I bought our house (first and only one so far) about 10 years ago, our agent arranged to have a really nice dinner delivered to us the first night.

It was a very nice and thoughtful thing to do, because as she knew (and we didn't!), we ended up spending the whole day moving stuff in and figuring out what would go where and all that -- we didn't think we'd get so wrapped up in it. And then of course, we didn't know where to go to eat locally! So having a great dinner brought to us was just what we needed.

The other thing she threw in which may be standard but was still a nice touch, was a roof-to-basement home warranty for 2 years, including all apliances etc covered. The first year or two in a new place, a young couple is already going to be strapped for cash. Taking this worry off our shoulders was really thoughful -- especially as the darned furnce DID develop a problem the first winter, so we just called the warranty company and they sent someone to fix it and paid for the whole thing. Very nice!

Try putting Washcloths folded nice also soaps shaped in different shapes, bubble bath, different things a ladie or man would like for bath. Last nights Top Gear featured the results of the latest J D Power customer satisfaction survey. The largest indepentant survey of it's kind. This year the 6 worst cars were all French. Everone knows they are cr*p, people who buy them say they are cr*p, so how come so many of them are clogging up our roads?

Why do people keep buying them?
Well that sounds like the Honda problem over here. Everyone with any common sense knows there junk. But they keep buying them than brag it's the best thing on the planet.I guess they can't admit they were wrong.

Reply:Modern cars are so reliable, that even the worst 6 are still considerably more reliable than a typical PC - or any car from 30 years ago.

French cars offer a lot equipment, and are often good value for money, but they generally sell on style - if you love the look of the Renault Mégane, then a Golf, Focus or Corolla is simply too dull.

However, sales of most French models have been falling recently, partly because mainstream brands are losing sales to the budget brands (Kia, Skoda, etc.) and premium brands (Audi, Mini, BMW, etc.), and partly because some of the key models are now some of the oldest in their segments (C5, Laguna and 307 especially), so are losing out to newer models (Passat, new Civic). The two French models that have gained significant sales recently are very new - the Clio and the 207.

Regarding French cars in particular, they have been at or near the head of the market for diesel engine technology for a while and Citroen have gone back to quirky cars to stand out in the market, meaning the kind of person that buys a C4 coupe is the kind of person who will put up with niggly faults to have that car.

I'd consider getting in touch with Alan Clarke, head of the UK Deming quality group at the CQI in London to kick off with.

Once you have a report and action points then prioritise them for the quickest gains (from the customers point of view)... quick gains are important when you are changing a culture.

I work in tech support and people call me everyday and ask for help and I didn't score high enough like I want on customer surveys this month (scale of 1-10, 10 being the best). I need a customers opinion to improve my performance so I can get better survey scores. This affects my bonus, so please be honest, I'm tough, I can take it, but please be brief, I just need advice not your whole bad experience story (we all have those stories). I don't know about your job but at mine this is what they look for. Being polite, no long silences, If you have to look something up make pleasant conversation. also never tell the customer to do something ask them to. like "could you please unplug your cable box". Never leave them on hold for a long time 30 seconds is to long if you are still looking up something come back on the line. and ask if they would be able to hold longer. if not offer to call them back in a reasonable time frame and make sure you do. also just being friendly and polite. I try to build a rapport with my customers. and joke around with them.
Reply:Be as poliet as possible. And while dealing with them you might want to get something to squeeze or a pencil to draw with so you dont over react and blow up. Also, no matter what they do always try to act calm and collected and not affected by their behavior. It in the long run should help you. Maybe you should try to get them to calm them down a bit if they are on the brink of losing it so you can talk calmly without them yelling in your ear and you being forced to yell back.

Most people appreciate clear simple answers that don't make them feel like a fool. Try to establish a rapport with your customer so that you can solve their problem quickly and in a timely manner. All customers appreciate feeling like you are there just waiting for their call and they are the reason you got up today-to help them. So make sure that they hang up feeling that way. And smile while you talk. It translates itself over the phone and helps make a situation more bearable-because they wouldn't be calling if there wasn't a problem-but you are the guru there to make it all better so make them feel better too! It will work out in your favor!!

The main areas of customer service on the website are: explanation of shipping costs and methods, how to go about returns/exchanges, store locator, size charts, and accessing personal account information (for placing orders or checking your credit card statement). Links are provided on the websites for contact information - by mail, email, or phone # in case there are any problems placing an order, or if a customer has a question about the merchandise.

The target market for the websites is probably the same target market for the stores. However, older people may not be familiar with, or may not be trusting of purchasing items online (for technology reasons, or for security reasons). I can't say for sure what the actual target markets are, but a good estimate would be: Old Navy: females age 15-30, males age 18-30. And then, after over a year and spending over a half million dollars, you'd be ready to open the doors and start earning your first dollar.

I say this to illustrate my point: businesses take time and money up front to develop. In the longer period of time, this time and money invested up front will pay off.

But businesses take time to develop!

It is not like being an employee where you get instant results, meaning work this week, get paid this week.

Business is not like that.

If you want something easy, with no investment, you could probably make $500 to $1000 per month getting paid by companies to write postings on blogs about their products. That's about the only legitimate way that I know of to earn money online without any investment.

In my experiance I beleave some thing small can make all the differance such as amuse buche witch translates to little taste , in some of the nicer places this is given for free and consist of whatever the chef wants to give I have given thins such as toast points with salmon roe or a single shrimp ravioli with a nice sauce ect. Infact most guest feel they are getting vip treatment just for a small gift such as this.
Reply:There was a restaurant I went to once before. I tipped large the first time there, but did not expect to be remembered. I made a reservation 3 months later. When I arived and gave the Maitre'd my name,he greated me by name(Mr. doe) and asked if I would like my usual table( I had a very good table the first time I dined there because a private party booked an entire room). My date was somewhat impressed. From then on every server, busboy, or manager who stopped by the table , addressed me by name. It feels good to be important, but it feels better to be important in front of people who are important to you.

At my company, we're encouraged to send out surveys to gage how our internal customers feel about our work. I think that sometimes, we're too quick to judge our success or failure by the comments of a few. What do you think?

Reply:Survey is O.K. but has to be designed, and handled properly -

1. The questions have to be intelligent, make sense. Misleading questions, or meaningless questions will mislead the results. 2. Which consumer group you target your survey is equally important - Let us use a detergent to illustrate: you send the survey to Senior citizen, executives, or teen agers, young students for answer are all wrong. The consumer group should be housewives, middle aged consumers. If you mistakenly sent your questions to the wrong groups, the answers will all be garbage's - they just fill up your answer sheet to finish the survey. 3. Also, the survey should be conducted over a longer period of time - a short period of time really can not find the accurate answer. 4. The populations - has to be a large group of peoples, in many geography areas. No to use the statistics for one spot answer to reflect the overall answers.

If the survey did not follow the way I recommended is purely waste of time and money. Also it will mislead the market direction of the company! It may caused the corporation big bucks.

I was suspended a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had alot of time to think, and look good at the reasons that I got some of the violations. Some were false, but some were valid, and I’m sure I didn’t do everything right to be able to keep my account. So what do you think of this idea, send something out like this to everyone who gets a violation? With Some people, you need to spell it out, links don’t work, and you have to show examples. ?

Therefore, polling/surveying/and chatting questions are removed. There are a lot of them, so sometimes we can’t get them all immediately, but this doesn’t mean they’re ok.

Also, there’s a big misconception in the community about the way abuse reporting works. Let me try to clarify: each abuse report is reviewed by a customer care agent, and an action is taken (this could mean no action as well). The number of times something has been reported and by whom has absolutely no bearing on whether or not deletion or suspension ensues. To ensure the highest level of fairness, each report is checked against our community guidelines and determined whether it is in violation. We also proactively monitor the site, so sometimes a deletion occurs even without a report.

I have noticed a decline in the quality of the questions this last month.

There needs to be a sliding scale to the penaltys for "bad content" posts and an explanation of what is "bad content"

I suggest just 5pt loss for the first violation and increasing by 5 each violation ie: 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50 all minus that way each 'bad content' incident is proportionaly penalized.

also special penaltys for cussing and direct insults like -25 or -50 per pop.

Another idea is to limit the person to level one posting limits no matter what their level is When they have posted 'bad content'

I think it would be best if they broke the rules down into sections.

several short sections would be easier to read...

One on how to post. one on how the points system works.

one on what is 'bad content' and the penalties for such stuff.

Here's the scenario: Individual customer satisfaction survey scores (measure is % of surveys with 'excellent' score) collected more or less at RANDOM intervals throughout each quarter yet summarized and reported on a QUARTERLY basis as a single number. Number of surveys ~30 each quarter. Want to apply SPC limits to the quarterly, grouped number (ie % excellent among n = 30). Here's the problem, I think: 1. P-chart assumes rational subgroups that act independently of each other over time. 'Arbitrary' quarterly sub-groups are likely highly correlated since surveys are collected at random intervals throughout quarter and not at a specific point in time. 2. P-chart becomes ultra-sensitive as n gets large? I want to minimize the likelihood of a false positive (false alarm).

Is there such a thing as a moving average chart for proportions or attributes? Should I treat the individual proportions as variables data and use a MA or other chart? What are my options?

You may want to generate the EWMA chart. It stands for Exponentially Weighted Moving Average control chart. Major statistical softwares would provide this option. For instance, SAS dose offer the procedure to construt EWMA chart, it is under SAS?QC component and the procedure it's called "PROC MACONTROL". Open: people write what they want, usually good to have a bit at the end for any other comments, but not the whole thing.

Age and gender are important so you can have an idea who your customers are.

Get them to tick which service they used and use a scoring scale for approval:

A lot of the questions of the type 'please score this service in terms of efficiency (whatever) between one and ten with one being totally dissatisfied and ten being completely satisfied.

Also you can go with 'indicate how much you agree of disagree with the following statements'.

In terms of the contents of the questions, these should address:

what people liked, what they didn't and what they want changed.

Remember that if you are going to produce a document at the end of this with percentages of satisfaction with this or that or the frequencies of various complaints, you must ask the right questions and if they are open questions then you will have a lot to do when it comes to processing the data.

I ordered from this site on 6/4/06; its now been over a FULL MONTH %26amp; have not recieved my order. They deducted the amount out on the 6/6 though - no delay there! I've called %26amp; emailed a dozen times if not more but they wont return emails %26amp; on the phone they either say it HAS been shipped, or thats it's ABOUT to be shipped... completely absurd! The first step to help you out with the matter is look at first link. It says that UPS is the carrier for delivery. and you should have recieved your order at the latest...6 days in the continental US.

The second link is for finding out your order status,there should be a routing number for UPS. If not call them back at their toll-free number requesting it. Call UPS with information. Take a good look at their return policy before making any decision.Your going to end up paying return freight if you receive them and decide to return them.Their is also a note there stating they do not want monogrammed rugs. Also says no refunds after 30 days.

You should start filing complaints now with the Better Business Bureau if anything. Use the BBB in the future to check on any

now i received a letter that says i have to pay something like 43.00$ because i did not purchase enough orders in the period contract.

i dont know what to do. there is no customer service . it is an 800 numbers with machine.

What can i do ???

I have heard of this saying before but not sure it applies here.

I am in a team of six, three boys and three girls for a business class competition. In this competition, we take on the role of a company planning to start a business. We have to come up with an idea for a business and then investigate to determine what is necessary to make that business a success. The type of business that we choose must be a Technology, Science or Engineering related business, but can be anything that falls within those categories. We have gone for a tech business.

So today we sat down and put together what each of us is responsible for to form the business plan. The guys really pushed for the roles of strategic planning, product design and development, finance plans and the girls have ended up with marketing design (but not planning), selling the idea, customer surveys and a sort of admin/hr combined role.

I've been proposed as the person to go out and talk with other businesses about our idea...

Is this a back handed compliment?
Lol I love the equality wrapped up in all that sexism. Sales and marketing was long considered a 'playboy' job for young, ambitious, go-getting guys, especially since it is commision based. Very recently women have shown some aptittude (on things like the Apprentice) and suddenly the success of them is attributed to them being a people person or having a warm quality!

The fact is, sales and marketing is a tough job, where you have to be likable and assertive, but with nerves of steel. It's a compliment that you've got that job, stuff the reasons why :-)

Hmmmmm, I don't see anything wrong with your question, especially since you said it was posted under Polls %26amp; Surveys. However, the unfortunate things is that there are MANY users who are just extremely report happy... especially when it comes to the "chatting" violation. It's as if they consider anything with the words "you" or "your" to be chatting, which is a violation of the community guidelines. For instance, they consider, "How long did it take you to graduate college?" to be chatting. It's absolutely ridiculous! So, I completely understand your frustration as I have been a victim of unjustified/malicious reporting.

Y!A's FAQ says that a question or answer will be removed if it's reported by one or more "reliable users." If the circumstance is more serious then the Answers staff may remove a question or answer themselves after reviewing it. However, the majority of the time they're just automatically removed and violation notices are issued, because of the way the Y!A system is designed. I personally feel the whole reporting/violation system needs to be changed because innocent questions and answers will be reported/removed while others, that are extremely offensive, are left alone. PLUS, I know that there are waaaaaay too many trolls disguised as "reliable users" who are out to get other users they don't like by wrongfully reporting them.

Furthermore, people who state their opinions are being reported as well. And Y!A says that having a strong opinion is NOT a justifiable reason for reporting someone. They just ask that users "do not use slurs to refer to groups of people, do not insult other members, and do not act in a belligerent manner towards others" when stating their opinions. Unfortunately other users still do report opinionated questions or answers regardless of the fact that they don't violate any of the community guidelines. This is EXTREMELY frustrating because honest Y!A users shouldn't have to pay the price for report happy trolls!

Now, Y!A doesn't list a reason for the violation because the majority of the time, the Y!A team isn't one who flagged your question or answer. When a user reports a question or answer they have the option to give further details as to why their reporting the question or answer i.e. "insulting other members." This will show up as the violation reason when the reported user receives the violation notice. Now, if the user DOESN'T list additional details, you won't receive a reason. I know this isn't the best format, but unfortunately that's the way it is.

Now, if you've received a violation notice you can appeal if you feel that you didn't violate any of the community guidelines. Just know that after appealing you'll receive an automated response that lists the community guidelines and then it will ask you to appeal again if you still believe your question or answer was removed unfairly. (Note: you may want to copy and paste your appeal's details and save it in a word document as you'll probably need to list it again in your final appeal). A couple of months ago I had a question and my points restored after turning over a violation notice that said I had been "chatting." So don't lose hope. People CAN actually win appeals. You just need to make sure that you address your case in a calm and concise manner as opposed to just asking, "Why?" or ranting. As a result the Y!A team will have a better understanding of the point you're trying to make.

i liked that one i thought it was totally kewl how you did that one. it seemed like it was a good way to promote people to the site and not only that i kinda wanted to steal the idea... maybe that was why? Look for spelling errors, which this one has. Also how they address you. If they don't use your given name or email name then it is probably a scam.

The biggest clue is that they are asking for personal info and password, which they never ever would do.

Reply:(1) The items - I wouldn't waste time in a store that doesn't have what exactly I'm after. I'm busy, I know what i want and often don't have time to waste.

The rest of them are a much of a muchness for me.

(2) Sometimes you only get what you pay for but this is NOT always the case. I had a $200 pair of boots. The whole sole came off one of them in the first wear. On the other hand, i had a $50 pair of shoes that lasted 4 years. You can't always go off price. Price doesn't always equal quality.

(3)The sales person does contribute a little. Even if the store had the best deal in town I wouldn't but from them if they were rude, giving me the hard sell or asking me every two seconds if they can help. It's just off putting. I'd go elsewhere.

(4)The ambience really doesn't bother me although like most people, aesthetically pleasing stores will of course draw more customers than the bland, boring, or crowded shelved ones.

Does anyone know of any LEGITIMATE jobs that you can do from home?

I'm not looking for a "get rich quick" scheme, just something to supplement our income. I was working as a P/T receptionist/admin asst. for 4 years, but quit a couple of months ago because the pay sucked and it just wasn't worth leaving my kids at home alone ( ages 17, 17 and 12). I had a promising career 17 years ago, but had to leave when twins were born prematurely. I have tons of office related skills - good phone manner, computer literate, customer service, etc., etc. I am also extremely responsible and motivated.

I have checked into things offered on the internet, such as "paid surveys" and they all seem like scams. I also have lots of "work-at-home moms" sending me e-mails that all sound like scams - they want you to subscribe for a fee.

PLEASE, any positive suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in the SW suburbs of Chicago, if that helps. Maybe you have a good experience

Something occured to me at work today when an American customer asked me "What language is spoken in Brighton"...jokes asdie, this is just one of a heap pf dumb questions ive been asked by American tourists. And now I find that only 30%of Americans have passports. Do they know there is a WORLD OUTSIDE AMERICA? Its starting to really piss me off! I was also asked "How long did it take to build the bridge that goes from England to Scotland" ....... need I say more? What are youre views on this?

I am an Italian living in the USA and I found it weird too. Maybe in Europe more people have a passport because we are closer to Asia and Africa, and even some European countries require you have a passport to go through their customs. The USA are a continent themselves, and people are just happy to travel within them. If I was American, however, I would definitely have a passport!!!

Reply:I came to the US when I was 15... which is about 7 years ago... I have seen Exactly what you're seeing right now.

TO BE FAIR, before I came to the US, I Did NOT know much about the World. All I knew was that UK Speaks English and so does US ( and of course France speaks French and Germany speaks German this basic knowledge). Coming to the US opened my mind.

No offense to any Americans, I think they are very brilliant when it comes to technology, and mostly kind. Their Open and Free System enable them to learn whatever they choose to learn and religious freedom allows them to worship the way they want. US is a great country, or Nation.

I think Most Americans have enough of everything in the US soil. They don't need anything else from anywhere else other than things from US (well, at least they know lots of stuff are made in China)... This obviously shows Isolation is a great barrier for Americans to see the world.

Btw, it is a really really funny question: "How long did it take to build the bridge that goes form England to Scotland?" - to respond to this question, it's pure ignorance (Not in a sense that they're stupid, but they just either don't care and don't feel the need to know about the world) .They see US is the Only modern world, and Europe is a very Old civilization, South America is poor, Asia except Japan is poor, Australia and Canada are both like the US... some even asked me that Hong Kong is in which part of Japan?

I think Americans (To be fair, I should say People Grown Up in the US) simply have enough and see the World as US. When they have some extra cash and they travel, this shows proof of their ignorance (Again, NOT stupid, just don't know Enough in that particular area- well, in this case, the Modern World)
Reply:I always found those who live in the UK to be rather resentful that (let me generalize for your sake) they know so much about America while America may not know as much about them. The fact of the matter is that American culture reaches the world while it is not so the other way around. You watch American movies, television shows, read books, etc. This is how you learn so much. Reply:I hold my hand up here and say that as someone living in the UK, I don't have a (current) passport either. I did however make a bit of an effort when younger (prior to my passport expiring) of having a bit of a look around the world to see what's out there.

I managed to pop around Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Norway and even the USA prior to the age of 16. That was around the last time I felt the need to leave the country. Adolescence provided other distractions, I guess.

Nowdays, with the cost of passports having increased, and their complexity changing practically daily with biometric data to be incorporated to comply with American demands, I doubt that I will be able to afford another passport, let alone a flight anywhere that requires I hold one.

I do feel content however that my actions in avoiding long-haul flights are preventing the world from even more carbon dioxide emissions and pollutants being generated from air travel. I feel grateful that 70% of Americans, by not having a passport, are probably doing more towards preventing greenhouse gas emissions than anything their government is doing on their behalf.

Perhaps the more interesting figure would be what percentage of Americans have not left their state?
Reply:Those that don't have passports or never have might be a little narrow-minded. Maybe some just aren't brave enough or don't care if they leave the country they've been raised in.

Rather than laughing at them for asking about the England to Scotland bridge you should congratulate them for knowing Scotland is a totally different place to England.

Reply:I wonder what country you are from. Talking about Brighton, I assume you are from England. Imagine being a student from Ghana living in a tiny town in the US. The stupid questions that were asked were neverending, from- 'you speak (English) so well. Did you learn it here? You must have studied a lot to learn it so quickly. Is where you are from very close to Africa? to, Oh Africa, is that near the Carribeans? My goodness!! My partner went to the US for a student exchange programme in 1997 and was asked if 'You live in trees in Ghana.' He answered 'Yes we do and the American Ambassador to Ghana lives on the tallest one. Very difficult for him to get down and work everyday.' That was in the 90's and I was asked these same dump questions in the 2000's.

I met a lot of 'dump' Americans who- according to them- are very content not knowing, but I was glad not all people I met were so closed minded but actually knew there was a world outside of their little corner and not prone to ask dump questions once you told them where you were from.

I can drive for thousands of miles and not need a passport... Reply:Most Americans prefer to travel within their country, since its cheaper and easier to get around. Also, I've asked this question before to some of my friends and they told me either they don't need one or don't know how to get one. Figures.

Reply:There's a reason most American's don't have passports. When the majority of Americans take a vacation, they go to another state, which does not require a passport.

Any of the closest countries that we might visit (Canada, Mexico, Virgin Islands) do not require a passport as well.

In Europe it is much more feasible to travel from country to country, which furthers the need for a passport. Much of Europe is accessible without the need for air travel, thanks to a railway system. Flying from Idaho or Kansas to England would be expensive whereas taking a train from Germany to Italy would not be.

So, unless an American is fairly well-to-do and can afford to fly to Europe or another far away country, there is no need to have a passport. It is probably true that a high percentage of Americans (300 MILLION) do not have passports, and it's true that many don't even leave the district/borough where they live most of their lives. It is limiting and they might have a narrow view of the world. However, it might prove that Americans are content to be home in the land of the free. A U.S. Passport (now coded with a special electronic chip) costs $67, which is ALOT of money for some people. And it is good for only 10 years. (The passport photo will cost an additional $8-$16.)

And in the past, Americans did enjoy the freedom of unhindered passage between Canada and Mexico; but by January 2007, all Americans will need a valid US Passport to re-enter the US. 9/11 changed everything for us.

My sister have actually said that she's Canadian when she was in Indonesia on business. Indonesians persecute the Chinese, and they certainly despise we Americans. We Chinese-Americans have a double target on our backs. In fact her employer provided instructions for possible evacuation by helicopter, to the German embassy, if "anything" happened in that country.

I'd say that college-educated and immigrant Americans are most likely to have a valid U.S. Passport. Americans are quite fond of Brits. It's obvious that it's not reciprocal...harking back to King George??

Have you ever been to America, and know about our 50 states -- diversity in people, wildlife, national parks (most in the world), tiny hamlets to large cities, every possible temperature/climate, the very poor to the wealthest people in the world? Do you know what is the major language spoken in Miami, Florida? Did you know that we have private schools where kids speak only German or French all day? I always meet German tourists in the most remote American places, like atop a mountain peak in Utah. I've never met a Brit atop any American mountain honestly. Where would Europe be if Americans did not come to relieve your tired soldiers in WWII?

And any question is a well-meaning opportunity to learn. It's ILLOGICAL (and contradictory) for you to despise American tourists who have THE passport. Bollocks to you!!

Reply:That statistic is pretty pathetic. I am not surprised by it either. Many a time have I been asked stupid questions by Americans and British people about where a certain country is or what language is spoken where. I noticed that people in Northern Ireland do not travel much either. I believe that the more one travels, the more open-minded they become. The people I know who have not travelled tend to be less knowledgable in geography and world cultures. It is valuable to possess cultural awareness, especially with regards to international business and technology.

Would you use a mobile oil change service?
Never bring your car to a jiffylube or any oil change place, do it at the dealership and give them the oil or do it yourself.

The oil they put in your car at a jiffylube is pure crap oil that kills your car, it takes only 15 minutes to change oil and it's a lot better knowing what oil you put in your car. You have a great idea, though, millions of lazy people will use your service.
Reply:One thing....don't try to make all your money from your oil changes! Make it from selling other services like wiper blade changes, light bulb changes, spark plug/wire changes, air filters, etc.

Reply:It's not a bad idea, I could definitely see the elderly, wealthy, and the very busy using this service (You'd probably want to live near these types of people). But, I wonder how much money is really in it for you? I could think of a few problems that could arise from working at other peoples homes, such as oil spills on their drive way etc..

Don't forget you have to pay for gas to drive to these peoples homes. If it's too pricey people may just suck it up and take the car to a cheaper place.

C. The items - regardless of the other things you listed, if the store does not have items that interest you, you will leave. I don't stay in a store with cheap things and friendly people if I don't like what they are selling.

D. The pricing - after deciding that you like what they're selling, you have to determine whether or not you can afford the things that they are selling. You rarely stay in a store where you can't afford anything because that just seems like torcher.

You want friendly people who are happy to help you, because otherwise, your whole shopping experience will be incredibly annoying and difficult.

Reply:A Yes, if the store looks good and the products well set out and categorised, then I find it welcoming. What I hate is the constant background 'music' they play, usually the boom-boom-boom type. If I hear that I leave and go somewhere else.

B As long as they don't constantly try to 'sell' me something that I don't want. I appreciate assistance but only when needed. If I have a question about the product I like someone knowledgeable to be there to help.

C The items are a matter for personal taste but I like them to be grouped together so that I have a choice and a chance to compare them.

D Naturally I like prices to be as low as possible. Hopefully they have a section with reduced items which I always look for in case of bargains. I refuse to buy products that I consider overpriced because they are 'designer' or have a well known lable when there are other products of similar quality that are cheaper. I also try to buy items that don't have the manufacturer's name splattered all over them.

I've been looking all over at different websites, but none of them are very clear.

Here's what I need from a web-hosting service, and I'd appreciate it greatly if someone could give me a good recommendation.

I need: something that will work with a mac (most sites don't say specifically whether their services are compatible with macs), a monthly payment plan, a service that will include a personalized domain name (only one domain name) in the plan/price, Japanese language capable, ability to run a small business, photo video and blog capable, a decent editing program that doesn't require advanced html/web design knowledge, and at a decent price for a poor college student. The following are not neccessary, but I would like something with personalized error pages, and a decent amount of storage space (10 gigs at least), guest book mailing list and survey ability, and decent customer service.

I liked the look of Host Monster the best, but they don't have a monthly payment plan. Help plz?

Geez, it's like my man and I can't buy or rent anything without somebody callign to see if it's OK, is it OK, were you satisfied with your service and product?

This is annoying the crap out of me, even though I know they mean well...

Oh Yeah, I saw on msn the article about the 10 worst companies.

But was it just a survey that got this crap going?

That is how they work and how they make their money. They sell your information to any buyer with a product or service to sell. The flow will die down soon, especially if you tell them directly to take you off their call list.

In the future do not fill any surveys online or in person. That is how spammers get your information!

Go to thedonotcalllist.com. It is government sponsored. You can contact them and after you submit your phone# they notify all the telemarketers to stop calling that phone number. It may take a little while but it works. If 1 doesn't stop calling, tell them you are on the do ot call list and you want them to stop harrassing you.
